Angry Badger Movie Review: Doctor Strange

Hello everyone and welcome back to another movie review. Today I'll be reviewing Doctor Strange

But what is Doctor Strange you ask?
A talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilising a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Unbiased review:

Doctor Strange tells a fun and nice story of a narcissistic jerk turned hero. With pleasantly funny moments as well as nicely choreographed action scenes. The CGI is done rather well for the most port, but there are times when the action movement-to-CGI is done poorly. Other than that its a movies that dives into a more "spiritual" side of Marvel while still being family friendly.

Doctor Strange is rated PG-13 for: sci-fi violence, action throughout, and an intense crash sequence, and brief language.

Things to consider before watching: Doctor Strange

Violence: Doctor Strange is like your typical Marvel movie when it comes to violence. People are depicted as being stabbed, one man gets his head chopped off (though we don't actually see it they just make reface). We see a lady fall to her death from a high place (though no graphic blood is seen) and we see a guy get exploded into nothingness. Through all this not very much blood is shown. There are like two or three scenes where they are operating on someone and we see a little blood (nothing graphic)

Swearing: There is light swearing in Doctor Strange (just like other Marvel movies) we hear bullsh**, sh**, A**h***, and blasphemy.

Other Negatives: Doctor Strange is a very "magical" movie. We see hex/summoning curricles. There is also the matter of spell books, casting spells and the such that are associated with western mysticism and New Age. Also Doctor Strange ignores all the rules of his new found 'cult' and does whatever he pleases to meet his goals.

Opinionated review:

So off the bat let me tell you I'm not a fan of Doctor Strange. I've never been a fan and never will be for a few reasons that I'll get into in another post. But the jest of it is that I just don't like the character or what he stands for.  I know a lot of people, and a lot of Christians, have been singing the praises of this new Marvel movie. And a lot of "Christian" reviews out there had stated it has "Christians themes and values". But truth be told there is nothing even remotely resembling Christianity in Doctor Strange.
And I've also heard how it has a lot of "Eastern religion" in it (go figure, they say is has both a lot of eastern religion and Christian themes. Sounds a little contradictory to me). But frankly, the elements that could resemble Eastern religion are only the mention of "chakras", the style of clothing, and the design of building in a portion of the movie.
What Doctor Strange does have in it, besides the fact Strange joins a cult, is very strong elements of Western Mysticism and New Ageism. Needless to say, these ideas are portrayed in a "good, fun" and "harmless" light. Now I'm not going to say that if you watch this movie you'll "become demonic" or anything like that. But what I want to say is maybe before watching this movie you should consider the effect it will have on you as you become used to thinking of hex/summoning curricles/casting spells/witchcraft as things used by good guys.

So what do you think? Have you seen the movie? do you Think I hit it on the nail or did I miss the broad side of the barn? Let me know your opinion in the comments down below.
